Charles Shaw

Charles E. Shaw, 75, of Ole Coach Lane, Tunkhannock, died unexpectedly Monday evening at home.

He was born in Tunkhannock, a son of the late Arthur and Marion Stark Shaw.

He and his wife, the former Dorothy Wise, had been married for 31 years.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Tunkhannock, and had served on many of its boards. He was a retired teacher and coach from Tunkhannock Area High School. He was a 1951 graduate of Tunkhannock High School, received his bachelor’s degree from East Stroudsburg University in 1955 and his master’s degree from the University of Scranton in 1962. He served with the United States Marines.

During his high school years, he was an all scholastic in football, baseball and basketball. He won the District 12 gold medal in the 440 and 880 in track. He also lettered with the Tiger volleyball team. He was a captain of the first undefeated, untied Tiger Football team in 1950. While at East Stroudsburg University, he lettered in football, wrestling and baseball. He served TAHS for 40 years as a physical education teacher and athletic director. He coached football for 20 years, baseball for 15 years, wrestling for 7 years and swimming for five years.

He coached baseball teams to five district championships and is the second winningest football coach in school history. He served as PIAA official and played softball, baseball and basketball in many amateur leagues. He loved to play golf, hunt and fish.

He was a loving husband, caring father, dedicated coach and teacher, a fierce competitor, a loyal friend and a kind soul.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur.

Surviving are his sons, Randy, Mike, Hunter, Robert and Frederick; daughters, Marsha, Susan and Ericka; sisters, Ruth Davis, Mary Tripp and Jean Loomis; a brother, Edward; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Tunkhannock Area Middle School auditorium. The Rev. Vivian Bennett of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church will officiate. Friends may call on Friday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harding-Litwin Funeral Home, 123 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock.

Memorial contribution may be made to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 3 Tioga West Plaza, Route 6 W., Tunkhannock.

Blood Drive 2008

Please join St Peter's for our annual Blood Drive to be held on October 15th (Wednesday) from 1pm - 6pm at Triton Hose in Tunkhannock. Our goal is 70pints of Blood. This year's drive is held in loving memory of Tiffany Mason and Mary Ann Clamser-Orr.

Today is Thursday September 18th and we are still accepting donations for the sale on Saturday September 20th here at Tioga West Plaza! Some goodies were brought today by JoAnne Civarelli and Eleanor Delany sent over some items. Our pile is growing and we hope very much to raise some funds for our building project.
